OnePlus New Update Brings First ColorOS Beta, Replacing OxygenOS

Oneplus new update

When OnePlus said it would stop selling in North America and Europe last month, it also said that all devices that can get the next platform upgrade will change from Oxygen OS to Color OS. This marks the end of the Android skin that helped make the OnePlus brand famous for over a decade. Even though they didn’t give a specific time for the change, OnePlus has started the process by launching a closed beta program for Color OS on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R.

One plus new update: The beta skips the US and Europe for now

According to Android Authority, the closed beta is only open to Indian versions of both phones, so people in the US or Europe can't take part this time. OnePlus has also set a limit of 300 testers for each device, and just having the right phone isn't enough to apply. You need an active OnePlus Community account, agree to a non-disclosure agreement, and be ready to join a Telegram group and chat with OnePlus' software team. The application period is short, only open on August 6 and August 7.

OnePlus hasn't officially said which Android version it's using, but Android 17 is probably the one, because there are reports that the company has been testing it on the OnePlus 15 internally since March.

This isn’t the first India-only beta from OnePlus

Last year's Oxygen OS 16 beta followed the same pattern, staying limited to Indian devices throughout its development before the stable version eventually made its way to other markets. So, it's unlikely that users in the US and Europe will get access to the beta version.

OnePlus has been clear about why it's making this change.

The company has said before that switching to Color OS will allow it to combine its engineering efforts with its parent company, Oppo, and make future updates faster. If fast updates are the main reason, then you might not have to wait long to get the stable Color OS on your OnePlus 15 or 15R in the US or Europe.
